Versuch über das Sterben
After the death of his father, the Basel director and author Boris Nikitin began to write down the story of his father's ALS disease. The disease had made short work of him: it took barely a year from diagnosis to death. Very early on, the father announces that he is considering assisted suicide. A statement that changed everything. In „Versuch über das Sterben", Boris connects the story of this outing with the story of his own coming out over 20 years ago. From this, he develops an intimate, radical evening of theatre about what it means to take the step into the public eye and make oneself vulnerable and attackable in the process.
There will be a conversation after the show.
Boris Nikitin, who otherwise does not appear on stage as a director, has made a name for himself with the two solos «Versuch über das Sterben» and Magda Toffler. Versuch über das Schweigen are theatre evenings all their own in every respect. For all their autobiography, the two texts are universal enough to offer many a very personal point of reference. The reduced form is perhaps the most generous invitation he can offer us.
